Modern and clean, classic yet fresh, the Public condominium project was a fun 2-year endeavor, from first meeting to completion. Provenance Constructors came to us to develop a sign package to communicate a sense of creativity and community to complement the growing vibrancy of the area for their condominium development which includes live/work condos on the first level of the buildings facing S. Congress and St. Elmo Rd. In keeping with community and in homage to the spirit of South Austin, Provenance requested Ion Art remove and preserve the landmark St. Elmo-Tel sign that graced the corner for decades. Ion Art cleaned the original porcelain cabinet, our neon bender hand-traced the letters in order to duplicate the original neon as only 2 or 3 units of the original neon remained on the sign, and our shop created a jig for our neon artist to curve the neon to match the rounded edges of the cabinet. No aspect of the community was overlooked right down to the wayfinding system in the parking garage. (2017)
